Sister Schools

India

Towards the end of 2015, Geraldton Grammar School welcomed a bridging partnership with Mother’s Global School in New Delhi, India. The aim of this relationship is to nurture a global outlook amongst students and teachers. Through a project based approach, students and teachers interact and expand on concepts focused on within the curriculum.

Each year Geraldton Grammar School students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of collaborative activities with students from Mother’s Global School. These activities include shared cultural experience, cultural inquiry, debate and investigations with awareness of perspectives.

Early in our partnership we welcomed Surabhi Gautam, Head of English at Mother’s global School, to Geraldton. Mrs Gautam had the opportunity to explore or region and spend time in our school working with teachers and students. This was reciprocated when Amy Price, Head of Humanities and Social Sciences, visited Mrs Gautam in India and spent time working with teachers and students at Mother’s Global School.

China

In 2014 Geraldton Grammar School signed a sister school agreement with Putuo No 2 Middle School, PuTuo District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province. Our first year 9 student exchange took place in April 2015 with 10 students and 3 staff travelling to China to spend a week at Putuo No 2. The group then spent a few days in Beijing exploring the cultural and historical sites. In July our students hosted the return exchange.

The Putuo group spent time in classrooms, made friends with other year 9 students, joined the choir, had a BBQ, toured the cray fishing factory and a cray boat and experienced the wonderful sights of the Midwest.

The second exchange group of 9 students and 2 staff travelled to China in April 2016 to continue the positive connections, further developed their language skills and created a greater understanding of the Chinese culture.

This annual exchange opportunity is already generating interest from students for next year.

Nepal

Shree Janakalyan is a small primary school in a rural area near Pokhara, close to the Annapurna region in Nepal.

Geraldton Grammar School has developed a relationship with Shree Janakalyan School, beginning in 2010, with a commitment to raising money to assist with the improvement of its facilities and resources for students and staff.

The fundraising has been driven by a student committee, who have held themed free-dress days, raffles and other activities, involving our students and staff from Kindergarten to year 12.
Fundraising efforts to-date have provided for such things as a new roof for classrooms; the painting of a building; and a fence around the grounds for safety and security. A pump and tanks have been installed to provide access to water at the school for drinking and hygiene. Some of the funds raised have been taken directly to Nepal to enable the purchase of much-needed school resources, including books, paper and teaching aids.

The ongoing support of Shree Janakalyan School is helping to make a positive difference in the education of its students.
