Curriculum

Geraldton Grammar School has an extensive selection of academic and vocational courses to suit the various education requirements and goals of today’s adolescents. Out timetable is designed to allow a gradual increase in subject specialisation between years 7 and 12.

All students study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education from years 7 to 10. Where appropriate, classes are streamed to meet the needs of particular groups of students.

Technologies and The Arts subjects are taught to all year 7 and 8 students in a variety of contexts for 1 term each, in year 8 as semester-long electives and in year 10 as year-long electives.

In years 11 and 12, students have the opportunity to choose from a total of 28 different ATAR and General Courses of Study. These courses all have direct association with our middle school and year 10 subjects in a way that allows our students to develop an understanding of both the demands of each of these courses and the applicability of each of these courses to the students’ chosen pathways. Furthermore, they are supplemented by our extracurricular program including camps in years 7 to 10, Outward Bound in years 9 and 11, school clubs and a variety of extension programs such as country week sports, debating, public speaking and academic competitions.

We are proud to teach Chinese as our Language of choice. In addition to the utility of this particular language, our close association with our sister school in China allows us to emphasise the benefits of developing an understanding of Chinese culture.

Geraldton Grammar School has a close relationship with Central Regional TAFE College and year 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to study Vocational Education and Training Qualification Certificates there, concurrently with their school courses. Other available vocational study modes are School Based Traineeships and Workplace Learning.

Our selection of ATAR Courses of Study ensures students have the opportunity to study a selection of courses that match their own aspirations for WACE achievement and tertiary entrance, including any course that is a university prerequisite.

Geraldton Grammar School provides academic scholarships for high achieving students.
